The education of children is a mutual responsibility of parents, students, and the Gordon Elementary School staff.  We want them to have a happy and productive year.  Only by working together with mutual support and respect can we accomplish this goal.

Parents are encouraged to come and visit their child's classroom at any time, any day.  Parental involvement in a child's education is one of the most important aspects to help kids succeed in school.  We encourage and want parents to come and visit the school as often as possible!  If you wish to come and visit, please call 282-0216.

Last Day of School for Students
May 24th is the last day of school for students.  School will dismiss at 12:00 p.m.

Summer Mission for Students
At our final Monday Meeting for the school year, students were given a mission to read at least 10-20 minutes 5 times per week.  There is a total of 84 days of summer vacation from May 25th until school starts on August 17th.

Below are figures that show how many minutes kids would read if they follow the mission:

Kids read 5 times per week, 60 days, for 10 minutes = 600 minutes read.
Kids read 5 times per week, 60 days, for 20 minutes = 1,200 minutes read.
Kids read 7 times per week, 84 days, for 10 minutes = 840 minutes read.
Kids read 7 times per week, 84 days, for 20 minutes = 1680 minutes read.

Reading over the summer can help with the summer drop off we often see in students coming back to school from summer break. Parents, make it a priority to read at least 5 times or more per week this summer.
The best part of reading over the summer is that the kids can pick out what they want to read! I promise you will see a huge difference in your child's reading fluency and overall reading abilities.
